The Missing Link Between You and Your Next Level
If you want the truth about success, here it is:
Success isn’t something you’re taught. It’s something you train.
In this episode of the Make Things Happen podcast, I had the honor of interviewing Bernard Hiller — a legendary Hollywood acting coach and performance trainer who has worked with actors, entrepreneurs, CEOs, and speakers across the globe from Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Pacino, Lindsay Lohan, Bryan Cranston, Cameron Diaz, to Brian Currie, Samuel L. Jackson, and Lionel Richie.
Brian Currie, 2X Oscar winner, said Bernard “knows everyone in Hollywood, every single person.” Lindsay Lohan said: “I don’t really see Bernard as just a coach. He’s more of an advisor of skill and a mentor. He helps you see what’s not written on the page and bring those aspects of the character to life.”
But here’s what surprised me most:
Bernard isn’t just teaching people how to “perform” on stage.
He’s teaching them how to perform in life.
Because whether you’re leading a team, selling a service, building a business, or stepping into a new identity…
it’s all performance-based — it’s all about how you show up.
The first rule: Trust your instinct
Bernard said something I want in every ambitious person’s brain:
“Instincts are always right. Your mind is usually wrong.”
Your mind will talk you into fear.
Your mind will rehearse rejection.
Your mind will convince you that you’re not ready.
But your instinct?
Your instinct is the quiet truth underneath all the noise.
When you learn to trust it, you stop living in survival mode… and start living with direction.
Every dream begins as “impossible”
We talked about how every meaningful dream moves through three stages:
Impossible → Improbable → Inevitable
That means the discomfort you feel right now?
The uncertainty?
The “I don’t know how this is going to happen”?
That doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
It means you’re early in the process.
And if you’ve been waiting for certainty before you move… you’ll wait forever.
Because greatness requires one thing most people hate:
uncertainty.
Emotion is the gateway to inner power
This part of the conversation hit hard.
Bernard said the people who succeed aren’t the most logical — they’re the most emotionally connected.
And I agree.
We’ve been trained to believe emotion is a liability.
But emotion is what moves you.
Emotion is what connects you.
Emotion is what makes you magnetic.
Bernard put it bluntly:
You cannot access inner power without emotion.
So if you’ve been “toning yourself down” to be more palatable… more polished… more acceptable…
You may be blocking the very power you need to break through.
The messenger matters more than the message
This one is a game-changer for speakers, entrepreneurs, sales professionals — anyone who has to influence or lead.
Because people aren’t just listening to your words.
They’re feeling your energy.
They’re reading your confidence.
Your presence.
Your belief in yourself.
Your self-love.
Bernard says it like this:
The messenger is the message.
And if you don’t love yourself, you will struggle to let others love you, trust you, and follow you — even if your message is brilliant.
Asking for help is a success strategy
One of my favorite moments in the episode was when Bernard talked about coaching.
The best in the world don’t try to do it alone.
World champions have coaches.
If you want to go to the next level, you need someone who can see what you can’t see — and call you higher than you’ve been calling yourself.
Your next level requires a decision
So let me leave you with this:
If your dream feels impossible, you’re not behind.
You’re at the beginning.
If you feel afraid, that doesn’t mean stop.
It means you’re standing at the edge of expansion.
And if you want to become unstoppable, ask yourself:
- Am I trusting my instinct — or my fear?
- Am I showing up emotionally — or hiding behind logic?
- Am I training my performance — or hoping confidence magically appears?
Because success isn’t accidental.
It’s intentional.
And it starts with how you show up.

This book is more than pages bound together. It’s my story, my struggles, my faith, my lessons, and my breakthroughs. It’s everything I had to walk through—the pain, the doubts, the setbacks—that shaped me into who I am today. I wrote this book for the dreamer who’s been saying “someday.” For the achiever who looks successful on the outside but still feels like something is missing. For the person who knows, deep down, that there has to be more.
I’m so grateful to be on this journey with you!
