When Mindset Isn’t the Whole Story

Why true transformation begins with your energy, not just your thoughts.

There’s something I’ve noticed over the years in conversations with people from all walks of life.

Many of us are doing the work.

We read the books.
We listen to the podcasts.
We work on staying focused, motivated, and optimistic.

And yet… sometimes the same patterns still show up.

The same frustrations.
The same kinds of relationships.
The same feeling that something is slightly out of alignment, even when we’re doing everything we can to move forward.

It’s a question that has fascinated me for a long time.

Why do some patterns feel so difficult to break?

Recently on the Make Things Happen podcast, I had a conversation with Chakra Coach Laura Morrice that explored that question from a completely different angle.

We talked about something that doesn’t always come up in traditional personal development conversations: the role energy can play in our lives.

Now, if you’ve followed my work for a while, you know I’m deeply passionate about helping people take action and create the life they want. But I’m also curious by nature about energy. I’m always interested in learning about different ways people approach growth, healing, and transformation.

This conversation opened up a perspective that I think many people will find interesting.

A Different Way to Look at Personal Growth

Laura’s story is one that immediately caught my attention.

She didn’t arrive at this work through theory alone. Her journey came from lived experience.

Like many people, she went through difficult seasons in her life that forced her to ask deeper questions about why certain things were happening and how she could change the direction of her life.

Those questions eventually led her to explore energy work, emotional healing, and the chakra system.

If you’re not familiar with the concept, chakras are often described as energy centers within the body. The idea originates from ancient Sanskrit traditions, where the word chakra literally means “wheel” or “spinning disc.”

According to this framework, these energy centers influence different aspects of our emotional, physical, and mental experiences.

What I found fascinating during our conversation is how closely some of these ideas connect with things many of us already recognize in everyday life.

For example, think about how certain emotional experiences can stay with us for years.

A comment someone made when we were young.
An environment we grew up in.
A belief we formed about ourselves early on.

Even if we’re not consciously thinking about those moments anymore, they can still influence how we see ourselves and how we move through the world.

That’s something Laura talks about extensively in the episode.

She describes how emotional patterns formed in childhood can sometimes shape our beliefs and behaviors later in life—often without us even realizing it.

The Hidden Drivers Behind Our Decisions

One of the ideas Laura shared during our conversation really stayed with me.

She explained that while our thoughts absolutely matter, our emotions often carry even more influence

The emotional experiences tied to our beliefs can amplify the signals we send into the world.

When I heard her say that, I immediately thought about how many people try to change their lives by focusing solely on positive thinking.

And while positive thinking can absolutely be powerful, sometimes there are deeper layers underneath the surface that also deserve attention.

For example, someone may consciously want success, opportunity, or a new direction in life.

But if there’s an underlying belief—formed years earlier—that they’re not worthy of those things, that emotional belief can quietly shape the choices they make.

Not because they lack intelligence or motivation.

But because those beliefs were formed long before they ever began questioning them.

That’s where conversations like this can truly make a difference.

Because awareness creates the possibility for change.

Why So Many People Reevaluate Life After 40

Another part of the conversation that resonated with me was Laura’s observation that many of the women she works with are over 40.

And honestly, that makes a lot of sense.

For many people, their 20s and 30s are about building careers, starting families, and navigating the responsibilities that come with adulthood.

There’s a lot of forward momentum.

But at some point, many people reach a moment where they pause and reflect.

Am I living the life I truly want?
Am I making decisions that align with who I am today?
Or have I been following a path that was expected of me?

Those questions don’t necessarily come from dissatisfaction. Sometimes they simply come from growth.

As we evolve, our priorities and perspectives often evolve with us.

That’s why conversations about self-awareness, emotional healing, and personal alignment become especially meaningful during that stage of life.

The Power of Looking Beneath the Surface

One thing I appreciated most about my conversation with Laura is that it wasn’t about quick fixes or promises of instant transformation.

Instead, it was about curiosity.

Curiosity about our beliefs.
Curiosity about our emotional patterns.
Curiosity about what may be influencing the direction of our lives.

And that kind of curiosity is powerful.

Because when we begin asking deeper questions about ourselves, we open the door to new possibilities.

Sometimes growth comes from learning a new skill.

Sometimes it comes from making a bold decision.

And sometimes it comes from simply understanding ourselves a little more clearly than we did before.

That’s why I love having these conversations on the Make Things Happen podcast.

Every guest brings a different perspective. Every story offers a new lens through which we can view our own lives.

And often, those perspectives spark insights we didn’t expect.

Sometimes the most meaningful shifts begin with a simple realization.

A realization that we have more influence over our lives than we may have realized.

And that when we start looking beneath the surface, we may discover possibilities we never saw before.
